“Peace in the Storm”
“It’s not the size of your storm that counts, but the size of your GOD.” –Dr. David Jeremiah, Pastor
“Jesus got into a boat, and His followers went with Him. A great storm arose on the lake so that waves covered the boat, but Jesus was sleeping. His followers went to Him and woke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We will drown!” Jesus answered, “Why are you afraid?” (Matt. 8:23-27)
Dr. Jeremiah writes, “Did you know there are no such things as big or small problems to God? Also, did you know God is in control of every storm we face?”
Our daily news is filled with ever-increasing tidal waves of stress and storms of violence, politics, economic fears, division, hate, injustice and abuse. But, there are also personal storms we all face. So, what kind of storms are you facing now? We all, sooner or later, find ourselves in one. Or maybe, it seems as soon as you get out of one storm, another one is just waiting to unleash it’s fury on you and stress you out.
Someone once said, “If God chooses not to still the storm, He stills the storm of His child going through it.” So, is it possible, in this modern, storm-tossed world, to have ‘peace in the storm?’
John 14:27, JESUS promised, “Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor fearful. ‘I am leaving you with a gift–peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
“Do you deeply believe this?”
We can read a promise from God sometimes until it becomes so familiar to us that it doesn’t feel like the Spirit of God is referring to us. Lucius Apuleis, who lived in Ancient Rome from 124 to 170 A.D., was quoted as saying this: “Familiarity breeds contempt.” This is why we need the Holy Spirit to help us understand and apply God’s truth to our hearts and our unique situations. We need the Holy Spirit to ‘re-sensitize’ our hearts to receive His truth for our daily lives!
Take some time to pray and ask the Lord to help you apply what you are reading, no matter how many times you’ve read it. He will make the Word of God ‘come alive’ for you and make it feel real, personal and worthy of your total trust and faith.
Our Heavenly Father is the Master Artist who is painting the portrait of our lives as He lovingly prepares us for eternal glory through Christ by the presence and power of His Holy Spirit. If Jesus ‘feels’ asleep in your situation, let me assure you of Psalm 121:3-4. “The Psalmist writes,“He will not let your foot be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.”
So, take heart and fresh faith my dear friend, there’s MUCH more peace He desires you to have as His grace gift to you than you have experienced thus far! We already know that the whole world is trying everything for peace of mind, yet Christ our Lord is offering to us freely. I don’t know about you, but I want God’s peace always in control of my mind and heart. I will leave you with this wonderful promise………(Phil 4:6-7), “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, WILL guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
“Give ALL your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.”
(I Peter 5:7)
“Heavenly Father, we ask for Your gracious, supernatural peace, the peace You promised us in Christ our Lord, to surround, fill and control us calming our emotions and stilling our thoughts no matter what storm we may be facing now, large or small. May Your Holy Spirit grant us what we can never manufacture on our own; Your peace, which surpasses all human understanding, richly though the blood of Christ Jesus our Savior, Amen.”
